Another trip to Normandy, with the added complication of being in Edinburgh the day before..
Usually I pick up my hire car on Saturday ready for the drive down on Sunday. This looked like it would be extra complicated as I’d be driving on Monday (the bank holiday) and in Edinburgh until Sunday. Luckily my office manager Sally came to the rescue with the cunning idea of picking up the car from Luton airport on the way back. This worked perfectly and was my first encounter with “The Kia”
I’ve now have an Emovis Tag which sticks on the windscreen. This automatically activates on the toll barriers throughout France and is a godsend for a solo traveller in a right-hand drive car. I’d definitely recommend this even if you’re not on your own as it makes road trips seamless.
Weirdly despite the number of work trips I’ve made to Honfleur I’ve never stayed over a weekend. The same was true this time. Although a two week trip I spent the first week there on my own before returning to the UK on the Friday afternoon. Then on Sunday I picked up my colleagues and returned for the 2nd week. A lot of miles on the hire car, but at least some company for the evenings! The Kia (Sportage) was actually a very good drive for long distances and surprisingly well specified with Android Auto, lane assist and good visibility (which is important when driving on the other side of the road to usual).
The warm weather we’d enjoyed in Edinburgh the weekend before continued and started make sitting out around the harbour a prospect in the evening (albeit with a jumper on).
Once again I was glad of the opportunity to stay in Honfleur as the town started to wake up for the forthcoming tourist season.
